Creating an offering - rock wrapped in ti leaf - like we've seen so many other times on hikes. This prompted me to research the "custom" and I found that it is a distortion of a true Hawaiian custom. Rocks wrapped in ti leaves were left on top of ho'okupu (offerings) to hold them in place so the wind or critters wouldn't take them. Apparently others have picked up the custom minus the ho'okup underneath. Perhaps it's becoming more acceptable as it becomes more commonplace, I am not sure. Order Warning
