Boys who love sports will practice them any time, any where, in any weather! This is more typical Washington weather. We are now an ice hockey family so we travel frequently on the weekends!
Can you remember how to do a sommersault? You can do outdoor things while waiting for the ferry! Even if your husband walks away and pretends not to know you. It’s ok – you did a sommersault and didn’t break your neck! 🙂

We are! It looks something like this. Always. They just got done being pinballs bouncing off each other. What is Sam singing? Loudly?
Now I’m trying to take a nice family picture, as is my tradition on holiday walks. It is not happening!
This is one way to manage two boys on a walk! Dave has finally had enough and is trying to separate them!

Out on a bike/run in Poulsbo, along Liberty Bay. This is a great place for biking, jogging or walking. it’s picturesque and has a broad shoulder.
It doesn’t look like winter in the rainy Northwest, does it? Well, not every day is rainy! This day was really nice – the sun is warm here, whenever it comes out, but when the sky is clear you know it’s cold!
I have been having SUCH fun riding and hitting the trails most weeks. Emmy loves to get outside of the barn, too. Funny how horses spook less on the trails where there’s far more weird stuff going on. The only hazard is getting to the trails from the road, but I’m managing to do that with more confidence, too.
And my awesome instructor, Janet Grunbok, who owns Whitethorn Farm. Definitely contact her if you want to get back into riding – dressage is way more work than I thought, and excellent training for anyone who wants to develop some serious horsemanship and confidence in the saddle.

Haunted trails for Halloween! I put ghosts up in the woods and lit the way with little candles in mason jars. Spoooooky but fun!
If you’re looking for a good fall walk, try Fort Ward at the south end of Bainbridge. You can grab coffee in Lynwood Center, head out on a nice 5K walk along the water then up through the woods and back to the parking area at the boat ramp. Along the way you’ll see bunkers and gun batteries from WWI and WWII. There are restrooms along the way, but no drinking fountains. Bring your own snacks. Afterwards you can hit Hammy’s for burgers, Treehouse Cafe for a broad menu including great salads, the Boathouse for awesome deli sandwiches and coffee, and Island Cool for frozen yogurt. Adopt a cat at PAWS on the way home…
I got a little messy clinging to the mini-cliff hoping to stay dry, then bushwhacked my way back to the trail. I WAS clean for about an hour that day!

The loop around Battle Point Park on Bainbridge is great for jogging. It’s stroller-friendly and just a few gentle grades. Two laps is a 5K. There’s a bathroom, water fountain, awesome playground, soccer fields, pond (two ponds in the winter!)… Every time we go the boys get even better at jogging, and we have a lot of fun. They LOVE to pull pranks on me and other grown-ups while jogging. And I love to laugh, so it’s all fine!
