The Gold Creek trail is about 2.5 miles each way, with 1000 feet of elevation gain. It took us 3 hours from start to finish, including a leisurely lunch at the top. The kids ranged in age from nearly 5 to 10 years old.

Green Mountain is a great local hike with views of the Olympics from one side and Seattle from the other (if the clouds aren’t obscuring them!). There are several picnic tables at the summit, and even an outhouse at both the trailhead and summit! Be sure to take valuables out of your car and lock it, though, as the parking lot is marked as a “high car prowl area.” You will also need a valid Discover Pass (oops – we didn’t know that and did not get a ticket, thankfully). There are several trails to the top, so if you’re new to this hike do print out the map. Also be advised that motorized dirt bikes are common on these trails. Years ago my husband and I mountain biked up the fire road to the top then took the trail down – that was fun. Enjoy!
