Footprint forensics!

The raccoon's back foot and front foot side by side. It walks like a bear, lumbering along by moving the limbs on the same side at the same time. Sam did a pretty good raccoon walk after studying the track pattern. You can ask the child - what would make the left hind foot track end up right next to the right fore foot track? The child can then experiment with a variety of gaits to see what would create a similar track. If you do a Google search on tracking you can find all kinds of games to play - even sand in a coffee cup!

We think this is a chickadee track. Cute little jet planes right next to each other!
