Seven boys age 7 and under did the Marine Munchies program at the Waikiki Aquarium (what were we thinking?). We had a fantastic time and having the aquarium all to ourselves for the educational program followed by feeding the fish was superb. The kids really loved feeding little shrimp to the anemones (even my 3 year old was able to use the tweezers to grab and feed), and the octopus put on a wonderful show opening a jar for food!

It is $100 for up to 9 people then $15 per additional person. (We just gathered a gang then divided total cost among all the families.) They say it’s for ages 5-15 but were flexible enough to accommodate a few straggler preschoolers. Mary Roney did our program – she was really engaging and knowledgeable.

The program is offered on Mondays from 4:30-6pm. Contact the Education Reservations group at the aquarium at reservations@waquarium.org to schedule.

Here is the formal write-up from their website:

Discover animals’ adaptations for capturing their meals and what they eat here at the Aquarium. Included is an exclusive after-hours animal feeding. Feed a sea anemone. Watch the octopus open a jar to get its dinner. Then it’s your turn to feed the animal in our Edge of the Reef exhibit. Celebrate Golden Week with April programs in Japanese. Minimum age 5 years; youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.
